At Parkhouse Ecology, we provide a full range of professional bat surveys across the South West, designed to meet planning regulations, legal obligations, and conservation best practice. Whether your project involves building works, demolition, or land use change, our bat expertise ensures compliance while safeguarding bat populations and their habitats.
Bats are a protected species in the UK, so if you’re planning building work, extensions, tree removal or development, you may need a bat survey.
The purpose of a survey is to check if bats are using a building or site so that your project can move forward legally and responsibly.
You may be asked for a bat survey by your local planning authority if:
You are renovating, converting or demolishing a building.
Trees with holes, cracks or loose bark will be felled or pruned.
Your site is close to woodland, rivers, or hedgerows where bats are active.
1a) A site visit to look for bats, signs of bats or features where bats might roost.
1b) If there is no potential for bats and no evidence of bats, we provide a short report stating no further surveys are required.
If bats are present or there is potential for bats, we carry out evening surveys using night vision cameras and bat detectors to record activity.
At each stage we provide clear, practical reports for your planning application, with guidance on next steps if bats are found.
