Our Bat Survey Services

Why Do Bat Surveys Matter?

Bats are a protected species in the UK, so if you’re planning building work, extensions, tree removal or development, you may need a bat survey.

The purpose of a survey is to check if bats are using a building or site so that your project can move forward legally and responsibly.

When You Might Need a Bat Survey

You may be asked for a bat survey by your local planning authority if:

A house extension in progress

You are renovating, converting or demolishing a building.

A tree surgeon cutting a large branch off a very tall, long established tree

Trees with holes, cracks or loose bark will be felled or pruned.

A waterway surrounded by thick vegetation of trees and bushes, and surrounding fields

Your site is close to woodland, rivers, or hedgerows where bats are active.

Our Bat Survey Services

1. Preliminary Roost Assessment

1a) A site visit to look for bats, signs of bats or features where bats might roost.

1b) If there is no potential for bats and no evidence of bats, we provide a short report stating no further surveys are required.

2. Bat Activity (Emergence) Surveys

If bats are present or there is potential for bats, we carry out evening surveys using night vision cameras and bat detectors to record activity.

3. Reports and Advice

At each stage we provide clear, practical reports for your planning application, with guidance on next steps if bats are found.
